Vices and Virtues

Liberation, as Carl Jung said, is the detachment from my vices and my virtues. And that’s the truth. People like to detach from their bad parts and attach themselves to their good parts. But that’s lopsided. You’ve got to detach from your good as well as your bad parts. When you do that, a strange thing happens: The vices and virtues are no longer ‘mine’. I give up 'mine’ when I give up both virtues and vices.

Do you want to give up your guilt? Well, you can’t give up your guilt unless you give up what you think is good or kind about you - how sweet, gentle or intelligent you are. You’ve got to give up attachment to all those things; to thinking you are anybody or anything.
