Why I Am Here
Speaking to the meditation group in his home in Highgate, London, before he began teaching more publicly. 24 June 1981.
I am a teacher of truth. I know the truth. I am reality. I utter these things to show you it is possible for a man to say them and still be a man who is as stupid as anyone … When you say such things you have to be able to stand up in front of your fellow man and not hide behind any lecture or any fancy mystery, and you have to allow him to destroy you for your reality depends only on your ability to withstand destruction by your fellow man. What is real stands, and stands alone.
The battle ahead is for me to get the message out to my fellow man, into this world. For that is why I am here. I know why I am here. I know what I am. I have a good apparatus through which to express this truth. It might be inadequate but it is good enough. I intend until the day I die to record at every opportunity, on tape or in the written word, all the truth I have within me. For my role is to bring areas of truth into the world that have never been uttered with such precision and with such embracing truth as I can bring through this apparatus. But I shall demonstrate it. I will not hide behind mystery or hide behind anything.
I am indeed the Doctor of Death for anyone who has to enter reality. When you enter reality, immortality, the end of this world, I shall be by your side, for you must have a representative of reality beside you. I am writing a book [The Origins of Man and the Universe] - many books - and they are going to be left in this world because it is time for man, the psychology of man, to understand the truth. It is not a palatable truth because it destroys so many illusions. I have this dreadful habit of repeating ‘I am the truth’, and it upsets everyone because it upsets their expectations. A teacher should not say that. A teacher should be gentle. I am not that. I am a teacher of reality. And that is all that concerns me.
All my statements will be different, although I will be saying the same thing. I shall always be elaborating on what I have already said. I shall be discovering it through the field of reality, which is yourselves around me. You are my intellect, you men of the truth. My intelligence reflects off you and you reflect back to me like the stars and enhance my capacity to interpret reality. My apparatus gets its knowledge through your 'vital double’ - right into reality, which is the field of my being. I say this to you and others like you on the verge of reality. All you have to do is love truth where you see it, and you will become love. And then be love and acknowledge reality and become it. But you cannot be reality if you are held back by some inability to pass through the personality, by seeing the wave and not the water. That is why there has to be the humility of student to teacher. That is how to be a student, not just with me. Go to anyone and if you see reality there, and you want that reality, acknowledge it in love, with true realisation of the truth, and it is yours.
Resistance
