The Truth of the Truth
Edited extract from the Tamborine Talk March 1989
Do you really want the truth? Let’s see … Your lover is making beautiful love to someone else. Do you really want to know? Do you want the truth? Do you really want to hear, to know, that your child is dead? Do you want to know that you’ve lost your job, your income? Do you really want to know the truth? Or would you prefer to stay in ignorance, to live in ignorance, where you are?
You say you want the truth, but when it comes down to it, you don’t. For life as it happens every moment is the truth. The truth comes eventually. ‘Event-ually’ means ‘by events’, doesn’t it? Everyone asking for the truth is going to get it. You asked for it by being born. No one escapes the truth. But everyone tries to ignore the truth of the truth.
To really know the truth, you have to be it. That means you have to handle it, contain it, by facing it eventually, without hysteria, without mental and emotional wavering.
The body may weep, but I am steady - for I am the living truth of this body.
