Tamborine Talks

Recorded every month by Barry Long on the verandah of his Queensland home, these Tamborine Talks were probably the most practical, personal and penetrating teachings he ever gave.

Practical because his aim was to send out a regular message to be taken on and lived until the next one arrived. Personal because he was speaking into the microphone in his own home about everyday events in his family life, and incidentally recording the rich tapestry of natural sound in his garden. He called them his ‘actuality broadcasts to the world’. The vibrancy of Australian birdcalls punctuates the speech. It is as if he is speaking directly to you, not to an audience. And as he covers a wide range of experience, from doing the dishes to the vastness of cosmic truth, and he delivers the talks so regularly, these teachings penetrate like nothing else.

The original tapes were recorded in the years 1986 to 1990 from the home he shared with his then wife Kathy and stepson Simon, in Great Western Road, Mount Tamborine, Queensland. This is an undulating plateau rising out of subtropical rainforest inland from the famous Gold Coast, south of Brisbane. Barry, Kathy and Simon’s enjoyment of the place is always evident in the recordings.

At the time, Barry was just beginning to establish himself as a teacher in Australia. The tapes were distributed one at a time to the people he had been working with for the previous decade in London, England. As a way of staying in touch with his always-new inspiration, the tapes were literally a godsend to very many people then and since. In the 90s they were reissued in albums of cassette tapes as The Collected Talks from Tamborine Mountain. Over the years they have been appreciated as an invaluable resource of truth and now the Foundation can announce that the remastering and reassembly of the original recordings as a series of mp3s is complete. They can now be collected by a new generations of listeners, available as year collections and as a complete bundle.
