Aphorisms - Death

It is the dying to opinions and impressions, the dying to the habit of reaction, that is so painful in truth.

You fear death because you perceive it will take all your power, position, possessions – everything you imagine you are.

What makes you strive so hard, and why do you keep going, when you're already under sentence of death?

Life after death is not life after death, it is a continuation of the stupidity and limitation of our current life. That's no good; who wants that?

Re-incarnation is the doctrine of ignorance playing for time in the future so that it won't have to face up to being true to life in the present.

The end of yourself is the end of the world, for you never ever return again. Only ignorance returns, and if you're ignorant, you won't know that you've returned.

The future is only a device of the living for trying to put off facing the idea of death now.

When death removes the future all the strain goes out of the present.

Death is merely the other side of life; it is familiar, intimately known by every one of us, in its benignant essence.

Death, ...., is merely the unknown. The unknown is only tomorrow and that is not enough to create our dread of death – otherwise we would all be running around hysterically morbid at our inescapable fate. In fact we see through death now and do not realise it. It is as harmless as that. No one at the moment of dying fears death; most welcome it. To all, it is the most natural thing in the world. The sad thing at the moment of dying is that the living do not understand.
