Watch Out, There’s a Mood About
From the Tamborine Talk August 1990
When was the last time you felt a mood coming on?
Mood has to be watched very carefully. Mood is the basis of all unhappiness. It is as subtle as the air you breathe. It creeps in so surreptitiously that you don’t see it until it is well-advanced.
You have to to be aware of the first sign of it. When someone speaks a word - one word - and you react to that word, you have to be present in your body to see if the system has started to develop a mood.
Some attachment to a previous unhappiness that’s locked down in your subconsciousness – something ready to be triggered by just one word – something you see that triggers it – the reference to some old attachment or unhappiness – or some association or disappointment – one seemingly errant or chance thought that stirs a little emotion in you. Watch out, there’s a thief about and the thief is mood.
You’re the only one who can keep it out. And the pressure of our times, which is going to increase for everyone living the divine life, requires you to keep out the thief that steals your happiness; that spoils your contentment; that takes away that most precious thing you have - your equilibrium.
Watch out. Be vigilant.
